FAQ

When do you update?

Wednesdays and Fridays for now, but I'm a creature of whimsy, so that may change when I feel like it.

Are the Kismetropolis characters based on anybody?

Yes.

Jamie Kingston is semi-autobiographical. The name in fact is an anagram of the stage name I took during a brief, foolhardy attempt to become an actress. Yes, I really have long dreadlocks. No, they're not really purple. Yes, I do wear black cargo pants and walk around barefoot. And the "it came from the headset" stuff really did happen to me RL, though not necessarily the way they do in the comic.

Kid Zero is based on a friend of mine. Rex Lapini is also based loosely on a friend of mine. So is Kiko. All parties are aware I borrowed aspects of them, and have given me permission to do so. Evan Renensco is a tribute name, but has nothing based on anyone but his name. Forsythe Hunter is based loosely on an old boyfriend. They say write what you know, right?

What influences your art?

Short question, but what a long answer.

The 1967 Spider-Man series, the later Spider-Woman series. The Pander brothers who drew Grendel in the late 80s. Matt Wagner. Disney. Many different types of anime. John Byrne when he was still drawing X-Men in the 70s [but not now]. Pretty much every cartoon I see and like. In 2004 I discovered that I can mimic other art styles fairly well. Which came as a surprise to me, because I'd been trying to mimic other art styles in my youth and had been unsuccessful. Now I can do it somewhat decently, and that helps my art too.

Also, Aeire from Queen of Wands has taught me a lot about color use, though it was from observing her. She didn't sit me down in front of photoshop and my tablet. And lately I've been getting better with anatomy from experience, observation, and watching TV -- and not just cartoons.

Do you read your email?

Yes. When time permits. Remember, real job, and I don't get paid for this. Fanart is appreciated. So are polite emails. Flames and entitlement complex demands are not.

Your comic takes place in a NY that has a WTC?

That's correct. They were part of my life growing up in New York and they will be rebuilt somehow. My imagination does not like a New York without them, and it seemed disrespectful to their memory to leave them out.

Why can't I hotlink images from your site?

Common internet etiquette should answer that question, but the short answer is because we don't want someone ganking my bandwidth by posting my images in their livejournal or anywhere else. This also throws off our stat tracking, which is uncool in general.

Can I see you at a convention?

Right now the only conventions I appear at with any regularity are Wizard World Chicago and Dragon*Con. Finances and scheduling don't permit much else, yet.

Do you commission artwork?

Yes. Time permitting. I'll try to keep update on the front page what my commission status is, but no promises.

Do you cross over with other webcomics?

Yes. The prelude was a semi-crossover with the Repository of Dangerous Things [now closed], and there's a crossover with Sanity Check in the works early next year.
